Universal Healthcare: Will You Lose Your Right to Choose?

June 26th, 2008 · No Comments

A common notion is that Universal Healthcare is a RIGHT.   Many people feel that a civilized nation has the responsibility to provide free healthcare to everyone.

Be careful!  You might lose your ”right” to choose what you think is best for you.  Read on…

England has a “National Health Care System” (NHS)

This article in the BBC News in England states that “Obese people are to be denied some surgical procedures in a bid to cut costs in the NHS.”   Obese patients denied operations!

Another article from the Telegraph.co.uk explains how smokers and obese people are being denied surgery because of their conditions.

“The Health Minister’s views on the issue, which mirror those of a growing number of medical experts, are based on what she describes as “best practice” – because operations are less likely to be successful when the patient is very fat or a heavy smoker.”

Doctors who ban surgery for smokers are right, says Hewitt.  What does this mean to us Americans?

If we choose Universal Healthcare, we are also likely to lose our ability to choose what we eat and whether we smoke.  The new healthcare system will likely impose cost-saving limitations on your coverage.   They will ration services.

Do you want “food police” to telling you what you can and cannot eat?
